Alternative Spring Break Service Trip 2026
Students will participate in a 5 day, 4 night service trip to Charleston, West Virginia to serve members of the Appalachian community.
For this year’s Charleston Service-Learning Trip, students will serve Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, participating in structured, hands-on community engagement projects focused on neighborhood revitalization, youth support initiatives, and community space improvement.
We will be serving two of the following sites (depending on our final numbers):
• Almost Home Ministries, a local ministry program that supports women currently in the program as well as former graduates, providing structured support and transitional assistance.
• Heart and Hand Outreach Ministries whose mission is to provide food, clothing, and essential support services to individuals and families in need within the community.
• Tyler Mountain Cross Lanes Community Services supports local schools and strengthens the surrounding community through direct service initiatives.
• West Virginia Scenic Trails Association (WVSTA) helps develop and maintain sustainable trail systems while protecting natural ecosystems in West Virginia.
Students will have time to explore the local area and relax in the evenings.
Transportation from campus to Charleston and back is included along with all meals and sleeping accommodations.
Cost: $95.00 plus service fee
This trip is being subsidized by the SU student activities fee and the Frank and Emilie Wood Robinson Community Service Endowment.
Registration fee is non-refundable.
SU is an Equal Opportunity/AA/Title IX university and provides reasonable accommodation given sufficient notice to the University Office or staff sponsoring the event or program. Please contact Tricia Garvey Smith at tgarveysmith@salisbury.edu for accessibility accommodations information.
